Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 lbs ground beef 90/10
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 29 oz can tomato sauce
  • 28 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2.5 cups uncooked elbow macaroni noodles
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Step 1: Sauté the Aromatics - Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Step 2: Brown the Beef - Increase heat to medium-high, add ground beef, break apart and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  • Step 3: Add the Liquids and Seasonings - Pour in beef broth, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir in Italian seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, and season with salt and pepper. Add bay leaves and bring to a simmer.
  • Step 4: Cook the Pasta - Add uncooked elbow macaroni to the simmering sauce. Stir well, cover, and cook for about 10-12 minutes until pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 5: Add Cheese and Serve - Remove bay leaves, stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot, garnished with parsley.

Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Wooden Spoon

Notes

For a little heat, add diced jalapeños or a splash of hot sauce. For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with lentils or a meat alternative. Use any shape of pasta you have on hand.
