Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the 8 oz of ziti pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente, usually about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain well and toss with 1 tablespoon of olive oil to prevent sticking.
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup ricotta cheese, 1 cup shredded mozzarella, 1 cup shredded cheddar, 1/2 cup grated parmesan, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir gently until well incorporated.
Add the cooked ziti to the bowl with the cheese mixture. Pour in 2 cups marinara sauce. Fold everything together carefully to coat the pasta evenly without breaking it.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Transfer the pasta mixture into your greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
Sprinkle a little extra shredded mozzarella or parmesan on top if you like a golden crust. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly with lightly browned edges.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
