Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread your choice: white, whole wheat, sourdough, or any favorite
  • 2 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 ounces cooked ground beef seasoned with salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ground Beef

  • Start with cooked ground beef seasoned simply with salt and pepper. If you don’t have cooked beef ready, brown the beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat for a leaner sandwich.

Step 2: Assemble the Sandwich

  • Lay out your two slices of bread. On one slice, place a slice of cheddar cheese, then evenly distribute the cooked ground beef on top. Add the second slice of cheddar cheese over the beef, and finally, top with the second slice of bread. This layering ensures gooey cheese on both sides of the beef, creating the perfect melt.

Step 3: Heat the Pan and Add Butter

  • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt completely, coating the pan evenly to get that golden, crispy crust on the bread.

Step 4: Cook the Sandwich

  • Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side. Press it gently with a spatula to help the sandwich heat evenly and the cheese melt thoroughly. When the bottom is golden brown, carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes until it’s equally golden and the cheese is melted.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy

  • Remove the sandwich from the pan and let it sit for a minute before cutting. This rest time helps the cheese set just enough to prevent it from oozing out too much. Slice it in half and enjoy your perfectly melted, flavorful Beef Grilled Cheese!

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Spatula

Notes

  • Use a good melting cheese like cheddar, mozzarella, or pepper jack for varied flavors.
  • Butter is key for a golden, crispy crust; don’t skip it.
  • Press lightly with a spatula while cooking to melt cheese evenly without squishing the sandwich.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat in skillet or oven for best texture.
  • Try adding caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, or jalapeños for extra flavor twists.
