Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup chopped pickles
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup mustard
  • 2 tablespoons turkey bacon cooked and crumbled

Instructions

Prepare the Ground Beef Mixture

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet over medium heat, cook lean ground beef and chopped onion until beef is browned and onions are translucent. Drain excess fat. Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Remove from heat and set aside.

Make the Batter

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs and milk until smooth. In another bowl, sift together all-purpose flour and baking powder. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, stirring until smooth batter forms.

Assemble the Pie

  • Grease a 9-inch pie dish. Pour half the batter into the dish to create a base layer. Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly over the batter. Sprinkle chopped pickles, crumbled turkey bacon, and shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top. Drizzle ketchup and mustard evenly over the ingredients. Pour remaining batter over the top, covering the filling completely.

Bake

  • Bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Serve

  • Slice the Cheeseburger Pie and serve warm. Pairs well with a green salad or vegetable side.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease and avoid a soggy pie.
  • Cook turkey bacon until crispy for added texture and smoky flavor.
  • Drain browned beef well to keep the batter from becoming watery.
  • Try sharp cheddar for a stronger cheese flavor or mild cheddar for a subtler taste.
  • Allow the pie to cool slightly before slicing to help it set properly.
