Ingredients

  • 15.25 ounces devil's food cake mix
  • 21 ounces cherry pie filling
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 8 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1.5 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This will ensure that your bars bake evenly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the devil's food cake mix and sugar. Whisk them together until they are well mixed.
  • To your dry mixture, add the melted butter, beaten eggs, milk, and almond extract. Mix until everything is just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay!
  • Gently fold in the cherry pie filling. This adds moisture and sweetness, so take your time to incorporate it without breaking up the cherries too much.
  • Stir in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars. This cooling time helps them set properly.
