In another bowl, whisk together the applesauce (or mashed banana), water, and vanilla extract. If you’re using sweeteners like maple syrup, honey, or stevia, add them here as well.
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips and any additional ingredients like nut butter or oil for extra richness.
Spread the mixture evenly into your prepared baking dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Once baked, allow the squares to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes. Use the parchment paper to lift them out and place them on a cutting board. Slice into squares or bars, and enjoy!
