Ingredients

  • 4 cups rolled oats
  • 2 2/3 cups applesauce or mashed banana adds natural sweetness and moisture
  • 3/4 cup water to help bind the ingredients
  • 1 tsp salt enhances flavors
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips or more for chocolatey goodness
  • 1/4 cup oil, nut butter, or additional water adds richness
  • pinch stevia or 1/2 cup pure maple syrup, honey, or agave adjust sweetness to taste
  • 1/2 cup additional water if using stevia
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract flavor enhancer

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats and salt. Stir to mix evenly.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the applesauce (or mashed banana), water, and vanilla extract. If you’re using sweeteners like maple syrup, honey, or stevia, add them here as well.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips and any additional ingredients like nut butter or oil for extra richness.
  • Spread the mixture evenly into your prepared baking dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, allow the squares to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes. Use the parchment paper to lift them out and place them on a cutting board. Slice into squares or bars, and enjoy!
