Ingredients

For the Danish:

  • 1 lb puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
  • 8 oz cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk (at room temperature)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon zest (from 1 lemon)
  • 1 1/2 cups berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions

Instructions:

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to allow your puff pastry to rise perfectly.
  • Step 2: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets if needed and cut into squares, about 4x4 inches.
  • Step 3: In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, granulated sugar, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and lemon zest. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  • Step 4: Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square and top with fresh berries. Fold corners to create a pocket.
  • Step 5: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water for the egg wash. Brush the tops of the danishes with the egg wash.
  • Step 6: Bake the danishes on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
  • Step 7: While baking, whisk together powdered sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice until smooth.
  • Step 8: Drizzle the glaze over the baked danishes and serve warm.
