Ingredients

For the Pizza:

  • 1 loaf French bread or Italian bread about 10 inches wide, sliced half lengthwise
  • 1.5 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ cup pizza sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning dried, optional
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 cup pepperoni
  • 1 tbsp parmesan cheese freshly grated
  • 1 sprig basil fresh
  • Extra pizza sauce as desired

Instructions

Instructions:

  • Step 1: Preheat the Oven. Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). This step is crucial for achieving that perfect crispy crust.
  • Step 2: Prepare the Bread. Take your loaf of French or Italian bread and slice it in half lengthwise. Place the halves on a baking sheet, cut side up.
  • Step 3: Season the Bread. Drizzle the olive oil evenly over the cut sides of the bread. Sprinkle the garlic powder and, if you like, the Italian seasoning over the top for added flavor.
  • Step 4: Add Pizza Sauce. Spread ¼ cup of pizza sauce over each half of the bread, making sure to cover it evenly.
  • Step 5: Top with Cheese and Toppings. Sprinkle about ½ cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on each half. Then, layer the pepperoni slices on top of the cheese. Feel free to add more toppings if you like!
  • Step 6: Add Finishing Touches. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the pepperoni and finish with a sprinkle of freshly grated parmesan cheese.
  • Step 7: Bake. Pop the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the bread are golden brown.
  • Step 8: Garnish and Serve. Once out of the oven, add a sprig of fresh basil for a pop of color and flavor. Serve with extra pizza sauce on the side for dipping, if desired.
