Ingredients

  • 2 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each), skin on or off based on preference
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions sliced thinly (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or any neutral oil for cooking)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, grated fresh ginger, honey, and sesame oil until well combined.
  • Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels to ensure a nice sear. Lightly season both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the salmon fillets skin-side down if using skin-on. Cook for about 4-5 minutes without moving them to get a crispy, golden crust.
  • Flip the salmon carefully and pour the ginger-soy glaze over the fillets. Spoon the glaze over the salmon as it cooks for an additional 3-4 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and coat the fish beautifully.
  • Transfer the glazed salmon to serving plates. Sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds for a fresh pop of flavor and texture. Serve immediately with your choice of sides.

Equipment

  • Non-stick Skillet
  • Small Bowl

Notes

  • Use fresh ginger for the best flavor; powdered ginger won’t provide the same vibrant aroma and kick.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan when cooking salmon—cook in batches if needed to ensure even searing.
  • Marinate the salmon fillets in the ginger-soy glaze for 15-20 minutes before cooking for extra flavor.
