Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil for the pasta.
Add the 12 oz of ziti pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package directions until al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain well and drizzle with 1 tablespoon olive oil to prevent sticking.
In a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, shredded cheddar, grated parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
Add the drained pasta to the cheese mixture, then pour in 2 cups marinara sauce. Stir gently to coat evenly.
Transfer the pasta mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading evenly. Optionally sprinkle extra mozzarella or parmesan on top for a golden crust.
Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until the top is bubbling and golden brown.
Let the baked ziti rest for about 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with freshly chopped basil leaves.
