Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (93% lean)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1 small onion, sliced thin
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Hot cooked rice for serving a great base for the stir fry

Instructions

  • Gather all your ingredients. Wash the broccoli and slice the onion thinly.
  • In a large skillet or wok, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and sprinkle in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes.
  • Add the sliced onions to the skillet with the ground beef. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the onions are translucent.
  • Add the fresh broccoli florets to the skillet. Pour in the water and cover. Steam for about 3-4 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, ground ginger, and cornstarch until dissolved.
  • Remove the lid and stir in the sauce mixture. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  • Serve the stir fry over hot cooked rice and enjoy!

Equipment

  • Large skillet or wok
  • Wooden Spoon or Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Serving bowls

Notes

  • For a lighter option, swap ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
  • Add sriracha for a spicy kick or mix in cashews for extra crunch.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, reheating quickly when needed.
