Instructions
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, dried breadcrumbs, finely diced yellow onion, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Use your hands to gently mix the ingredients together until just combined.
Step 2: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into oval patties, about ¾-inch thick.
Step 3: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, gently place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
Step 4: In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour to the leftover juices and whisk until well combined. Slowly pour in 1 ½ cups of beef broth, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook for about 4-5 minutes until the gravy thickens.
Step 5: Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Allow to simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes before serving hot.

Notes
For added flavor, sauté the diced onions before mixing them into the meat. Ensure the meat is not overmixed to keep patties tender. Use a meat thermometer for perfect doneness.
