Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal later.
In a mixing bowl, mash the overripe bananas with a fork until smooth. You want them to be creamy, with just a few small lumps.
Add the melted butter to the mashed bananas and mix until well combined. Then, whisk in the eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ground nutmeg, salt, and ground cinnamon. This ensures that all the leavening agents are evenly distributed.
Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Be careful not to over-mix; a few lumps are okay!
Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top with a spatula for an even bake.
Sprinkle the additional 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar on top of the batter. This will create a lovely sweet crust as it bakes.
Bake in your preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Once baked, remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy a slice warm, or store it for later!
