Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter cut into chunks
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda generous... so a tiny bit more
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In your mixing bowl, add the chunks of unsalted butter. Then, sprinkle in the packed light brown sugar and granulated white sugar. Using a whisk, mix these ingredients together until well combined and creamy.
  • Crack the large egg into the bowl and pour in the vanilla extract. Whisk again until the mixture is smooth and homogenous.
  • Sprinkle the salt, baking soda, and all-purpose flour over the wet mixture. Gently fold the ingredients together with a spatula until just combined.
  • Add the 2 cups of chocolate chips to the dough and fold them in until evenly distributed.
  • Using a cookie scoop or a tablespoon, portion out the dough onto your prepared baking sheet.
  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are still soft.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Baking Sheet
  • Cookie scoop or tablespoon

Notes

  • Chilling the dough for 30 minutes before baking can yield thicker cookies.
  • For an even richer flavor, consider browning the butter before adding it to the sugars.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
