Step 1: Prepare the Tofu - Start by pressing your tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes.
Step 2: Bake the Tofu - Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Drizzle a bit of oil and season with salt. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Step 3: Make the Orange Sauce - In a mixing bowl, combine the orange juice, tamari, rice vinegar, maple syrup, ginger, garlic powder, and orange zest. Whisk until well combined. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Add this to the sauce mixture and whisk again.
Step 4: Combine Tofu and Sauce - Once the tofu is baked, add it to a skillet over medium heat. Pour the orange sauce over the tofu and gently toss to coat. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and glaze the tofu beautifully.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy! - Remove from heat and serve your Orange Tofu over rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.
