Ingredients

For the Sauce:

  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch for thickening the sauce
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar to add a touch of sweetness
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce for umami flavor
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil to enhance the dish with a nutty aroma

For the Chicken and Vegetables:

  • 1 small boneless skinless chicken breast (about 8 ounces)
  • 1 tablespoon oil for sautéing
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion adds sweetness and depth
  • 1/2 cup water (divided)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 6 ounces green beans (trimmed and halved)
  • 1/2 red bell pepper (diced into 1/2-inch squares) adds sweetness and vibrant color
  • Salt to taste
  • White steamed rice a perfect base for your dish

Instructions

Directions:

  • Start by cutting the chicken breast into strips. This allows for quick cooking and easy eating.
  • In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch, granulated sugar, soy sauce, and toasted sesame oil. Stir until smooth and set aside.
  • In a wok or large skillet, heat the tablespoon of cooking oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the chicken strips to the hot oil, cooking them for about 4-5 minutes until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside.
  • In the same pan, add the chopped onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic, green beans, and red bell pepper, cooking for an additional 4-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender yet still crisp.
  • Return the cooked chicken to the pan with the vegetables. Pour the sauce mixture over everything, followed by 1/4 cup of water. Stir well to coat all the ingredients and allow it to simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  • Taste your dish and add salt as needed. If you prefer a bit more sauce, feel free to add the remaining 1/4 cup of water and let it simmer a bit longer.
  • Serve your Panda Express-Inspired String Bean Chicken hot over a bed of white steamed rice. Dig in and enjoy the burst of flavors!
