Ingredients

  • 10 cups Crispix Cereal
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips Ghirardelli recommended
  • 1 cup Andes Creme de Menthe Baking Chips for mint puppy chow
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter Jif recommended
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter 1 stick
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Cereal - Begin by placing the Crispix cereal in a large mixing bowl. Set this aside while you prepare the chocolate mixture.
  • Step 2: Melt the Chocolate Mixture - In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the milk chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and unsalted butter. Stir continuously until everything is melted and smooth. Remove from heat, and stir in the pure vanilla extract.
  • Step 3: Coat the Cereal - Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the Crispix cereal. Gently fold the cereal into the chocolate mixture until all the pieces are evenly coated. Be careful not to crush the cereal!
  • Step 4: Add Powdered Sugar - Once the cereal is fully coated, sprinkle the powdered sugar over the mixture. Start with 3 cups, and toss until all pieces are covered. If you prefer a sweeter treat, add more powdered sugar to taste.
  • Step 5: Create the Mint Flavor (optional) - For the mint variation, repeat steps 2-4 using the Andes Creme de Menthe Baking Chips instead of the milk chocolate chips.
  • Step 6: Cool and Serve - Spread the Puppy Chow mixture on a large sheet of wax paper or parchment paper to cool. Once cooled, break into clusters and serve in a bowl, or package in treat bags for gifting.
