Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 small flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup lettuce shredded
  • 1 tomato diced
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • Turkey bacon cooked and crumbled (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Ground Beef Mixture

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until the seasoning is evenly distributed, being careful not to overwork the meat to keep it tender.

Cook the Turkey Bacon (Optional)

  • If you’re using turkey bacon, cook it in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove it from the pan and place it on paper towels to drain. Once cooled, crumble it into small pieces.

Smash and Cook the Burger Patties

  • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Divide the seasoned ground beef into 8 equal portions. Place each portion on the hot skillet and use a spatula or burger press to smash the meat down firmly into thin patties. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on the first side until the edges become crispy and caramelized.
  • Flip the patties and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until done but still juicy. Remove the patties from the pan and set aside.

Warm the Tortillas

  • Warm the flour tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave until they are soft and pliable. This helps prevent tearing when you wrap your fillings.

Assemble the Smash-Burger Taco Wraps

  • Place a warm tortilla on a plate. Add a smashed burger patty to the center, then sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, and crumbled turkey bacon if using.
  • In a small bowl, mix the sour cream and salsa together. Spoon a generous dollop of this creamy sauce over the top of the fillings.

Wrap and Serve

  • Fold the bottom of the tortilla up over the filling, then fold the sides inward and roll tightly to create a wrap. Serve immediately while warm and enjoy!

Equipment

  • Large Bowl
  • Large Skillet
  • Spatula
  • Burger Press (optional)
  • Microwave or Skillet (for warming tortillas)

Notes

  • Use a heavy spatula or burger press to achieve a crispy crust on the patties.
  • Warm tortillas just before assembling to prevent tearing or cracking.
  • Store cooked patties and toppings separately to avoid soggy wraps when reheating leftovers.
  • Try different cheese types or add jalapeños for extra flavor and spice.
  • Substitute ground beef with other proteins or vegetarian options for variety.
