Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 piece green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 cans tomato paste 6-ounce each
  • 1 can tomato sauce 8-ounce
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes 14 1/2-ounce
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or 2 tablespoons as preferred
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Start by heating your large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the lean ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  • Once the beef is browned, add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and fragrant.
  • Stir in the tomato paste, tomato sauce, and stewed tomatoes. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
  • Add the Italian seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, and salt. Stir to incorporate all the flavors, and then pour in the cup of water. This will help thin the sauce to your desired consistency.
  • Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let it simmer for at least 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The longer you let it simmer, the more the flavors will meld together.
  • Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve it over your favorite pasta, and enjoy the warm, comforting flavors of this Southern spaghetti sauce.
