Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil for sautéing and adding richness
  • 1 clove garlic freshly minced
  • 8 whole canned tomatoes San Marzano are a great choice
  • 1 teaspoon oregano dried or fresh
  • 4 pieces top round steak thinly sliced (about 4 oz each)

Instructions

  • Gather all your ingredients. Mince the garlic and set it aside. Crush the canned tomatoes gently with your hands or a fork.
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the whole canned tomatoes to the skillet, breaking them up as you stir. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the oregano and season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the sauce to simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Season the sliced steaks with salt and pepper. Push the tomato sauce to the side of the skillet and add the steaks. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side.
  • Once the steaks are cooked, mix them into the sauce to coat well. Let everything cook together for an additional minute before serving.
