Ingredients

  • 1 pound broccoli florets
  • Water for steaming

  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Start by rinsing the broccoli florets under cold running water. Cut into bite-sized pieces if necessary for even cooking.
  • Fill a pot with about an inch of water and place the steamer basket above the water, ensuring the water does not touch the broccoli. Alternatively, use a microwave-safe dish with a lid.
  • Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Place the broccoli florets in the steamer basket, cover, and steam for about 5-7 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. For microwave, steam for about 3-4 minutes with water in the dish.
  • Carefully remove the broccoli and drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice if desired. Season with salt and pepper, toss gently, and serve immediately.
