Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef sirloin thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cups mixed bell peppers sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • cooked rice or noodles for serving
  • sesame seeds for garnish
  • chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Prep Your Ingredients

  • Begin by thinly slicing 1 pound of beef sirloin against the grain to keep it tender. Slice 2 cups of mixed bell peppers into strips, and cut 1 cup of broccoli into bite-sized florets. Mince 2 cloves of garlic and grate 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger.

Step 2: Make the Sticky Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons soy sauce and 3 tablespoons honey until fully combined to create the sticky glaze.

Step 3: Heat Your Pan and Cook the Beef

  • Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef in a single layer and sear for 2-3 minutes without moving it to develop a crust. Flip and cook for another 2 minutes until just cooked through. Remove beef and set aside.

Step 4: Stir-Fry the Vegetables

  • In the same pan, add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Toss in bell peppers and broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp.

Step 5: Combine and Glaze

  • Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Pour in the honey soy sauce mixture and stir well to coat everything evenly. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and becomes sticky.

Step 6: Finish with Sesame Oil and Garnishes

  • Drizzle 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over the stir-fry and toss once more. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Equipment

  • Sharp Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Large skillet or wok
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Wooden Spoon or Spatula
  • Grater or microplane
  • Bowls

Notes

  • Slicing the beef against the grain ensures the meat stays tender and juicy.
  • Use a non-stick skillet or wok and avoid overcrowding the pan to keep vegetables crisp and sauce from burning.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat gently with a splash of water or soy sauce.
  • Substitute tamari for soy sauce to make this dish gluten-free, or tofu for beef to make it vegetarian or vegan.
  • Add a spicy kick with red pepper flakes or sriracha for extra flavor.
